Overview

Entering its fourth season, QCVA organizes and runs competitive National level teams (ages 15-18) during each club volleyball season. These teams serve as the best pathway to play at a high level and to be recruited to play in college, no matter the division or level. Travel teams practice three times per week from December through June and attend a minimum of eight regional tournaments.

Participation in our travel teams in a big commitment. We intentionally work with and support players and families who are willing to invest the considerable amount of time, energy and money — through our training and on their own terms — necessary to compete at this high level. We provide our services at cost-effective rates with the goal to offer the most value to our athletes and their families. No one will be turned away due to an inability to pay. We also offer a number of scholarships to athletes who demonstrate a financial need and submit an application.

We see the work that we do at QCVA as bigger than volleyball. We get to know every athlete and invest in them by supporting their development as players and as young people. Since we are a small club, athletes benefit from multiple points of individualized instruction and a diversity of inputs. We also focus on life skill development and the fostering of community (parents included), within each team, across teams and throughout the club. Take a moment to learn more about our club:

You will need to create an account through LeagueApps (our registration platform) in order to register. All tryout participants must be pre-registered!

If you cannot attend tryouts, please contact us at [email protected]. Please make your best effort to attend our summer programming, so we can get to know you and watch you play. Please also share a highlight video and any other relevant information that can help us get a better sense of your skills and profile.

What to Expect

We work to foster a tryout experience where everyone is welcomed, included, empowered and able to perform at their best. For that reason, we ask that each athlete contribute to that effort: introduce yourself, be kind, celebrate good plays and root each other on if someone is having a tough time.

Parents and spectators are not allowed to watch tryouts. This is done not to create some level of secrecy — rather to limit distractions for athletes and coaches so everyone can give their best effort.

We assess athletes over a two-day period to get a comprehensive assessment, and to allow athletes a chance to step up if they have an “off” first day. We will assess fundamental and positional skill, volleyball IQ, communication, presence, mindset and alignment with The QCVA Way.

We will follow up with tryout participants by Tuesday evening. This will give us time to make thoughtful selections and contact you about your standing. It can take a few days for rosters to fall into place as each coach has conversations and athletes inform us of their decisions. For full transparency, we will contact athletes that we plan to invite to our travel teams first. If you are not selected to join a travel team, you will receive the news via email.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many teams are you planning to host?
We’re planning to run 3-5 National level teams (ages 15-18) with 10-12 athletes per team. We design our rosters to foster a high level of competition at each position and to accommodate occasional absences (e.g. schedule conflicts, injuries, etc.). We will announce our tournament schedule closer to tryouts.

If I receive and accept a travel team offer, how much is the tuition?
Tuition is $2,190, which covers facility usage, equipment, coaching fees, tournament entry fees, administration fees, recruiting support and leadership workshops. We offer the option for families to pay the tuition in full or in three installments during the course of the season. Costs for travel to tournaments, AAU/USAV registrations, private lessons, etc. are not included.

If you are invited to join a QCVA team, you must pay the first installment of $730 by the end of Wednesday, August 3, to secure your roster spot. This is a non-refundable fee.

What will teams do from August through November?
It’s important to us to respect the commitment of athletes and coaches to their high school seasons. With that said, we will organize occasional activities for each team to start to build connections and train, whether that’s an open gym or fitness training.

What if I don’t want to play travel ball, but do want to receive training?
As part of our mission to expand access to the game of volleyball in the Charlotte area, the High Performance Training Program develops volleyball skill and builds volleyball IQ among young people who are eager to grow as players. Read more here.
